While reading Ballaban's !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . It got me thinking about what the Navy may find in the ocean. While it was pointed out that a P-3's MAD boom would pick up ferrous metals, and a 777 lacks too much of those outside of the engines and landing gear, there might be other things they may pick up. One item might be large fittings from the Space Shuttle external tanks. Most went into the Indian Ocean and southwest Pacific. The video below shows a tank breaking up over the Indian Ocean. I realize the likelihood is very small, but you never know.
